- Of course you can. This is the proper method.
-
- Now do remember that the A3000 SCSI bus is one long bus beginning at the
- farthest end from the motherboard of the internal cable and extending to the
- farthest end of the external cable. There should be terminators at these two
- ends and (ideally) nowhere else. If the motherboard is terminated you might be
- better served by eliminating that termination and using an external SCSI
- terminator in case you want to add external drives. It'll make things easier
- later on. In a real pinch with no terminator on the motherboard and a *VERY
- SHORT* length of cable (under 2" called for - under 4" might work) between the
- drive closest to the motherboard and the motherboard you can terminate that
- drive in lieu of the external port or the motherboard terminations. It will be a
- pain later if you add an external drive as you will want to remove that
- terminator so that the bus has its best chance of working. (Do note that
- overtermination will cause reduced chip life on all devices on the SCSI bus
- because the bus currents are very high in the "asserted" state and the chips are
- designed to drive two standard loads and little more. Hence the output stages do
- not saturate and power dissipation goes up VERY rapidly.)
